These night vision goggles set the stage for exciting adventure as children explore the mysteries of the dark. Strap on the Velcro-adjustable headband, flip the impact-resistant plastic green lenses over the eyes, and switch the control to the "on" position. With a little imagination, these battery-powered goggles--with mini-flashlights flanking the lenses--become real "see in the dark" glasses that allow children to explore caves, tunnels, or even just the back of that scary closet! Flip lenses up onto the forehead to turn off the lights; flip them back down over the eyes and the lights come on again. This is a great toy for any astronaut in training. These lightweight, comfortable goggles require two AA batteries and clean up easily with a damp cloth. Recommended for ages 6 and up.

Items like these "spy vision" goggles are immensely popular, in part because kids expect the same results they see on the big screen or cartoons. The goggles look cool enough (which may be all that matters anyway) but don't expect much. The adjustable head strap is fashionably padded, with a techno-looking pack in the rear. The pack actually just holds batteries. The key feature, however, is the eye-catching, acid-green lens. They are useless for deflecting UV rays, exploring underwater, or--not so surprising--penetrating darkness. What penetrates the darkness are two small, small light bulbs, dressed up in nifty pop-out compartments on each side. The goggles, though, to their credit, make everything appear cool and eerie--including the wearer. That's fun even without real spy vision. Required: 4 "AAA" batteries. --Diane Beall
