Big mistake.First, the Amazon product description doesn't reveal that the flashlight is a single *red* LED. In other words, it doesn't cast much light. Maybe if your kid has watched lots of spy movies with spies using infrared flashlights he won't mind. Second, the two ends of the periscope that must be pulled out for use don't pull out easily and sometimes stick. The same sticking problem exists when closing it back up. At least that's the situation on the two scopes I bought. Third, the mirror (aka the part that makes the periscope function) is very small. When looking for a toy periscope, I suggest looking in person at a toy store. Check the size of the eyepiece and mirror because it dictates how much can be viewed through the periscope, and thus how much fun vs. trouble the periscope will be... I purchased 4 of these and it was way off from my expectations. Scope only allows you to see dime size image and red light does not shine any light or ray. My poor kids were disappointed because this really sounded like something they would have carried with them everywhere. I do not recomend this product because of its poor functional performance.
